I am writing to you as a Christian (I am informed that you have confessed to be one on several occasions) and as a former fan of your show ‘Churchill Show’.

I don’t know if the ratings have indicated my departure from watching your show on Sundays, I doubt they have ?? in any case I am only one fan/household. So I felt it was prudent of me as a Christian and former fan to let you know why I no longer watch your show. The departure wasn’t sudden, it was actually a gradual slow one: from watching the entire show to just watching a few jokers to one joker to none.

The reason is actually very simple but for clarity sake I will be generous enough to expound on it. I no longer watch your show because it goes against my faith. What do I mean by that? The answer is twofold:  First your character as a person goes against my faith and secondly most of the content of your Sunday show goes against my faith.

Let me begin with you. I have tried over the years without any success to reconcile the fact that you earn your daily bread Monday to Friday (and am reliably informed there’s a repeat session on Saturday) ‘committing treason’ against the institution of marriage, the female species and the family unit behind the microphone. Then you dress up and show up on our screens on Sunday purporting to celebrate the very same institution, species and unit. I can’t! And to add salt to injury is the information that you have confessed to be a Christian. I am completely unable to reconcile all these factors. How a child of my Father can earn a living (inevitably endorsing) desecration of his creation: the woman, marriage and the family unit.

Because you see Scripture is very clear, no child of God continues to walk in sin. It does not mean that as a Christian you will not sin, no, that would be making God a liar (and that is not possible); but it does mean that sinning is no longer your lifestyle. And clearly Sir, this does seem to be a lifestyle. The first Epistle of John, the entire five chapters is one that would greatly clarify what I have condensed in the three sentences above.

Back to your character. As if the Sunday metamorphosis is not enough, you have the courage the sheer audacity to ask me as a woman, a wife, a mother indeed a parent to bring my children to the ‘Kids festival’. In all honesty Churchill, if this is not an insult tell me what is. How can you earn a living demeaning my person, my gender, the family unit and the institution of marriage which I hold sacred then ask me to bring my offspring to you for entertainment!!! I can’t!

Lest I belabor the first point, I hope you have somehow understood it.

Secondly is the content of the show. I noted the increasing raunchiness of the content of most of the jokes and the jokers themselves; and don’t even get me started on the cross dressing. It did not come as a surprise to me though because of the first point above: bearing in mind your trade during the week days I doubt you have any moral authority to correct the comedians on your platform. And the fact that the show airs quite early, many children are exposed to the content which I must say is not one that builds up the listener.

Of course there is some credible content, guests and jokers on your platform but the rotten tomatoes have a way of making the whole bag smell. And at the risk of getting food poisoning while trying to get the good tomatoes, I would rather dispose of the entire bag!

So dear Churchill, now you know why I no longer watch your show.

Sincerely,

Joyce Mwangi

NB: I credit this phrase ‘committing treason’ to Kibui Rwigi. He used it a couple of moons back in relation to your radio show. I paraphrase his comment: If the kind of treason committed on your morning show against the institution of marriage was committed against the state . . .
