Obedience

Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obedience to the voice of the Lord?
Surely, to obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is no less a sin than divination,
and stubbornness is like iniquity and idolatry. (1 Samuel 15:22-23)

If most humans would be honest, they would confess that they would rather do anything to appease God other than obedience to His commands. In this case sacrifice rather than obedience. Yet God has called us to unequivocal obedience: nothing more, nothing less. Creativity in obedience to God’s command is not a new phenomenon, as you can see from our scripture reading today it is a disease that has plagued man since time immemorial.

Yet, it is in this setting that we must teach our children obedience. Obedience to God and His Word. Obedience that does not improvise or adjust the commandments; unequivocal obedience. Such obedience can be taught yes, but it best learned through display by lives that are living I obedience to God and His Word. So before you run to teach Ephesians 6:1-3 to your children, you would do well to be living a life of obedience to your Heavenly Father; lest you stumble the little ones with your conflict of words and actions.

Question of the Day: Obedience is better than sacrifice – how will you practically teach this lesson to your child/ren?

PRAYER:

Dear Father, for all the times we have not obeyed You and Your Word we ask for mercy for forgiveness. Father, we are so prone to wander away from your commandments and into our own devises, have mercy on us Father and restore us to Yourself. As we purpose to walk in obedience to You and Your Word help us Father to teach obedience to our children. Thank you for Jesus Christ, Him who lived a life of perfect obedience to You Father, He is an example for us today. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
