Sexual Atheism: Jesus is Lord over everything in my life with the exception of sex

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Fornication and adultery are sexual sins within the church that continue to go unaddressed as the same Christians  all turn in one voice (ok most Christians) to condemn the LGBT movement and its adherents. Can we first pick off, remove the log in our own eyes to help us see better the sins of unbelievers? And what exactly do we expect to be the lifestyle and code of conduct of unbelievers if not sin and sinning?

The rise of single and sexually active people in the church is worrying. I feel that it is even becoming trendy, the in-thing. Am talking about living with your boy/girlfriend before marriage and engaging in sex while at it; as well as having multiple sexual partners while married; and engaging in sex after divorce with anyone other than your living spouse.

Brothers and sisters who are we kidding but ourselves. It is not that the standards of God have been lowered to accommodate our fleshly desires but that we have ignored to the point of searing for some of us the voice of the Holy Spirit in us who repeatedly tells us sexual immorality is sin. The Bible is very clear those who conduct themselves in such a manner shall not inherit the kingdom of God period! It also goes on to remind us, lest we forget, ‘such were some of us’ who are now of the household of faith. When we did not know God, when we lived in sin and had self as Lord of our live unrighteousness and all the specifics detailed in the scripture above characterized our lives.

BUT not anymore.

As children of the light, we must now walk in the light. We must disown sin and its practices and embrace holiness and righteousness. This is of course a daily walk: “Daily take up your cross and follow Me”, the Master commanded us (Luke 9:23). And we are not to follow Him as we please, but as He commands and sex is very much a part of it. He is either Lord of all or Lord of none: there is not in between when it comes to submission as a Christian to the Lordship of Jesus. Otherwise we are preaching a different Gospel than the one that was passed down to us by the Apostles.

And guess what is the worst part about sexual sin? Of course nothing beats not inheriting the Kingdom of God. But while here on earth:

Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

Sexual immorality is not only a sin against God but it is the one sin you commit
against your own body.

Pause and read that again.

When you are engaged in fornication or adultery, not only are you sinning against God but against your own body as a believer.

And just in case we need a reminder we are told:

  1.  Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit within us
  2. The Holy Spirit has been given to us from/by God
  3. You are not of your own
  4. You were bought with a price – the excruciatingly painful and humiliating death of Jesus on the cross.
  5. In light of all the above – glorify God with your body.

Brethren, to continue to walk in sexually impurity through fornication and adultery is to walk in direct disobedience to God and to live in a manner that nullifies the very faith we profess.

How can the unbelievers even give us a second look when we buy condoms and morning after pills at the same rate?

How can they even put their faith in God to subdue their fleshly sexual desires when they can clearly see through the sexual lifestyles we have adopted that He is not able to help His own?

We bring ridicule to the name of Jesus, we bring doubt in the power of God to change and transform lives, we bring laxity to the sinners and we lower their need for a Saviour.

Awake, awake ooh sleeper. Arise from your slumber.

You walking in fornication and adultery stop it! You watching in silence as a brother or a sister walks down that slippery road of self-destruction, speak up!

Turn the tables now shall we? Take it a notch higher….

Or did you just think we were going to end it on a self righteous note? Nope!

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

Matthew 5:27-30

Jesus raised the bar on this issue of sexual sin. He said it is not just those engaging in sexual sin who stand condemned but also those who are walking in lust. You don’t have to physically commit adultery, Jesus said, but if you just look at a woman (and a man) with lust you might as well have slept with her (or him).

BOOM!

10th commandment breakers, looking at other people’s spouses with lust and covetous eyes, we have all been clumped up together with those engaging in adultery and fornication.

Therefore brothers and sisters in the LORD, let us heed to the voice of the Lord. He says to us even this very moment:

“Come now, let us reason together,
    says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
    they shall become like wool.
If you are willing and obedient,
    you shall eat the good of the land;
but if you refuse and rebel,
    you shall be devoured by the sword;
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Isaiah 1:18

Will you heed the call? Will you come and reason together with the Lord?

If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land: if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword.

The choice is yours: life and death is on the table

Choose life: Shun sexual immorality – fornication and adultery!

    there’s no way we’ll win souls for Christ if we’re not willing to seek purity and faithfulness. Be blessed for sharing that:-)
