Trustworthy

The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy

(Proverbs 12:22)

Small lies, big lies, half lies, very little lies, harmful lies, harmless lies are all detestable to God. Instead He delights in people who are trustworthy, people who speak the truth. Lying is one of the sins that becomes quickly evident in children. Sugar jar is open and some sugar missing, nobody wants to come clean; something gets broken in the house and everything and everyone else including imaginary cats and winds are to blame; one of the children is crying and none of the other children is to blame. The list is endless.

Yet being truthful, being trustworthy is such an important virtue to ingrain in our children. Not because it will help them in life but because God delights in people who are trustworthy. The so called harmless lies especially in the telecommunication age are those that discredit us before our children. Someone calls you and you say you are at the door yet you are still in bed. We must model truthfulness and being trustworthy to our children. People who keep their word even to their own cost; people who can be trusted, counted upon to always speak the truth no matter what.

Activity for the week: Create a truth wall and have each family member’s name on it. Have red stickers for lies and green stickers for truth. Let each member populate any of part of the wall then have a time to evaluate and pray at the end of the week.

PRAYER

Father, you detest lying lips but delight in those who are trustworthy. Father we repent of the many times we have been detestable to you by lying. Help us today and always to be trustworthy, to speak the truth. And help us to teach our children o follow the path of truth, to be trustworthy people. In Jesus Name we ask, Amen
